Sinterklaas

Today we celebrate Sinterklaas in Holland. In november the old bisschop Sint Nicolaas, comes from Spain to Holland, on his steamboat to give the children presents and treats and to celebrate his birthday. The Pieten help him to do that. In the weeks he is in Holland, the children may put there shoe in front of the fireplace, at night and sing a song for Sinterklaas. They often put a carrot or an apple in there shoe for the horse and sometime's a drawing or a wishlist.The Pieten put "pepernoten" (tiny cookies with a kind of gingerbread taste) in there shoe and chocolate .

On december 5 is the big celebration. You never know when the big jute bag, full of presents is delivered at your home, so, the waiting in very exiting!

Sinterklaas often writes a poëm especially for the child about what went well, what not and the funny things that happend this year.

Right now the children are celebrating at school and I'm prepairing everthing at home, writing poëms etc. In an hour everything has to look like nothing special happend here, until the Pieten are banging on the door.

Oui! Pour moi!

I wasn't able to sew for ten days because I didn't feel well, but last night I had to make something.

The pattern came from "Naai je eigen tuniek" (sorry, that 's Dutch) and it was ready in two hours.

I used, Batiste-Antracite and Tatum - H bias tape.

When I was a little girl, my mother had, about the same taste as I do, now.

She loved natural fibers, like wool and linen and she had a small collection of Liberty scarfs.

She was subscribed to the "100 Idees" There was a Dutch version for one year, in '76/'77.

I read the magazines over and over again, in every stage of my life, so, a few years ago my mother decided, I could have them in my home.

Now I'm going to show you, about, once a week, an article from the Dutch "100 Idees" that was responsable for my preferences, these days.

Let me introduce you to Claire and Vianne.

They asked if they were allowed to play on my balcony. That was ok, but I told them, they had to make everything ready for Winter. They loved to do that for me.

(Vianne was named after the lovely chocolatier, in the film "Chocolate".)

"La petite école" is the name of this lovely fabric, designed by French General. Take a look there, it's very interesting to read, how this company was created.

Sunday at home

I have always been a bit of a "like to stay at home"type. On a sunday like this, when it's clouded and rainy and I have nothing special to do, I love to do two things: 1-Work in my studio, on something that just comes up in my mind (like everyone, I'm inspired the most when there is no pressure). 2- Bake a pie, for the family.We will eat it in the end of the afternoon with a big bowl of coffee, then we are not so hungry anymore and I will have to prepare just a little something for dinner
(saves a lot of work ;-).

Johannisbeer-Baiser-Kuchen

This is a German recipe. I got it yesterday from Suzanne, because I liked it so much, when she baked it.
But I can never stick to a recipe (as with patterns) so, I made it with raspberry's and ground hazelnuts instead of red berries and ground almonds.

Thank's Suzanne, It was delicious! I will do this more often, with red berries, black berries, blue berries ............

Welcome to my new blog!

A lot of you might know me as "Atelier Poppenoek". I decided it was time for a change.
There are too much blogs in The Netherlands, with Poppe....something. It made me think of a new name for my business and here it is!
Since 80% of my customers is not Dutch, I will write in English from now on. Forgive me if my English is not correct, I'm learning each day.

There are no dolls in the shop, yet and no messages, beside this one. I will take a long blog pause, until september one and then....... I will start fresh, with a new name and blog.
